I have have been developing and teaching online courses since 2007, and I have managed Instructional Technology for higher education since 2017. I am the primary LMS administrator at my institution, and I help design online courses. I help instructors develop their own online courses, I explain course design standards, and I review online courses for quality and accessibility.
I also design online courses that I teach. I am knowledgeable of instructional design scholarship and standards, online pedagogy, universal design for learning, and internet accessibility. When designing online courses, I use a course development template that promotes the following instructional design standards and principles for online instruction:
- Consistent and clear organization of content through weekly or unit modules.
- Alignment of content and assessments to student learning objectives.
- Engaging and personalized instructional content through videos and interactive content pages.
- Formative, low-stakes practice activities that prepare students for larger course assessments.
- Opportunities for regular and substantive feedback on student work.
- Student engagement through multimedia, announcements, discussions, and office hours.
- Attention to accessibility, especially with videos and images.
- Links to academic resources and support services for students.
